Your telegram of 2nd April 1927. Misunderstanding appears to exist as to the requirements of this Port.

Actual requirements are as follows. I.Special fully

qualified Naval Architect approved by the Board of Trade

to deal with special passenger certificates.

This post

to be temporarily filled by officer loaned by the Board

of Trade see my telegram of 2nd December 1926. Appoint-

ment and salary of permanent holder to be settled after

? arrival of temporary officer see penultimate paragraph

of Board of Trade's letter M.12434/26 of 14th October

1926 enclosed in your despatch 4th February No.36. No.

objection to Church being trained for this post on salary

of £460 but should prefer to await views of temporary

Surveyors for ordinary work of Harbour Department vide my

telegrams of 29th March.and my despatch of 10th July 1926.

Gr16182/26 No.319. Church appears suitable for one of these vacancies

in C:

and would be acceptable if not required for training? for

special post referred to above. These two officers are

urgently required.
